"Wide selection of full spectrum flourescent lighting."
|
 |
A plant grows best when it receives the spectrum and intensity of sunlight, and the right lighting
is essential to successful hydrogardening. This can be given, indoors or outdoors, by High Intensity Discharge lighting (HID)
in conjunction with specially designed luminaries.
With HID lighting, hydrogardeners can tailor their plants – for
instance, they can choose lighting which will increase flower and fruit yields over yields produced under sunlight,
or lighting which will produce a more compact plant with more green leafy growth.
By way of a brief introduction: the three main types of HIDs
each have a different blend of gases in their inner glass tube, each blend producing its own range of light color. An abundance
of light in the blue spectrum (produced by Metal Halides) is excellent for green leafy growth and compact plants. High Pressure Sodium bulbs give an orange-red glow, which
induces hormones to increase flower production and promote stem elongation (increasing the number of flowering sites).
Finally, Son Agros are a kind of hybrid of the halides and HPS bulbs - strongest in the orange-red spectrum yet with 30% more
blue light - which helps offset the elongation from using only an HPS bulb. The Son Agros are also the brightest and most
efficient bulb.
